Can you pattern-match wallpaper around an old chimney breast?

Yes, but it needs planning before the first drop goes up — Edwardian chimney breasts are rarely perfectly square, so we set the pattern to look centred from where the wall is actually seen (usually the doorway) rather than by the tape measure alone.

Balham's first-floor conversion flats are mostly Edwardian, with the original chimney breasts still in most living rooms — rarely square, which matters for anything with a repeating pattern like wallpaper or a mural.

Bedford Hill and the roads off Balham High Road are permit-controlled; we use the pay-and-display bays near the common when a permit isn't practical for a short job.
